Allison Rimland, Greenwood Village Licensed Professional Counselor, she/her/hers

Allison Rimland Denver Marriage Counselor

I love helping people build loving relationships with loved ones and themselves!

I have over 20 years of experience counseling others to understand themselves more fully and better their lives. I counsel individuals, couples, families, and teens.

I started my professional career in the high-tech sales world, making the change to counseling in order to follow my heart. This was a challenge to triumph journey where I ultimately found my true passion. I believe my clients can do the same.

I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University. My BA is from Middlebury College in Vermont.

I am a Colorado Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist and Supervisor.

As the married mother of two children, I bring real life experience along with counseling expertise to each and every therapy session with you. I believe life has endless lessons to teach me, and I am an eager student. I bring that curiosity into sessions to deeply understand you and help you grow in your life.

It is incredibly important to me to offer a safe, non-judgmental space to all of my clients, and I am passionately LGBTQIA+ Affirming.

Some of my favorite things

  • Hearing my kids laughing together
  • Yoga
  • Skiing
  • Staying up later than I should reading a page-turner
  • Coffee in the morning
  • Meditating in the gym’s steam room (bliss!!!)
  • My groovy dog Tank!

My counseling style

Relational
I work very hard to develop a caring, trusting, and honest relationship with you. Therapists from this orientation often use the therapeutic relationship itself as a model for what may be happening in a client’s relationships.

Emotionally Focused

I work with clients using Emotionally Focused Therapy, which research has shown is effective, compelling, and long-lasting. EFT provides a road map to relationship repair and recovery, where 70-75% of couples working with an Emotionally Focused Therapist moving from a state of distress to recovery.

Attachment-Based

I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist and Supervisor, which means I approach you knowing that we are all born to need, and strive for secure relationships with those close to us our whole lives.

I will see your intentions, feelings and challenges through this lens. When working with couples, I don’t pathologize or blame. Rather, I look for the patterns that explain how you’re getting stuck and help you reach out to each other in ways that bring you closeness.

Systemic and Holistic
My training focused on community-based family therapy which addresses the system (society, school, peers, family, & self) in understanding client problems and developing solutions.

I may recommend family therapy to best include all these dynamics which can impact your family.

I am also a firm believer in viewing the whole person in therapy. An Holistic approach will take into consideration and may include in the therapy: overall health, fitness, diet, sleep, friendships, work, fun (!) and other relationships.

Strengths-Based
As a strengths-based therapist, I believe in the noble intent behind human behavior. I help clients to find the solutions within themselves, using their current strengths.
