Regardless of how your life may appear to rest of the world, it’s very human and normal to experience feelings of isolation, emptiness, hopelessness, or despair. You may feel stuck and find yourself going through the motions.

Sometimes, we cope with these negative feelings by trying to avoid them. Life then becomes a pattern of avoidance, rather than living life according to what matters to us.

The ways we find to avoid our difficult feelings are endless – cigarettes, drinking, gambling, sex, pornography, spending endless hours on the internet, shopping, etc.

The more we do the thing that distracts us, the more incongruent we feel.  We suffer as life becomes less vital, meaningful, and purposeful.

This is the very reason counseling is a great place to start and why we are so passionate about what we do. We want to help you get back to your vitality, your meaning and your purpose in life.

One of the toughest things about being human is that we love quick and easy relief. If we do something that pays off for at least a little in the short term. We continue to do it- even if it doesn’t help in the long run, or even ends up making things worse.

Addiction is a way to distract from painful memories and avoid uncomfortable thoughts/feelings.

It may feel good in the moment, however, in the long run it does more damage and often turns destructive. It can take a stronghold and take you prisoner, not allowing you to be connected to yourself, the people in your life and the world around you. Your world then becomes meaningless and you start to forget that anything besides your addiction matters.

It’s time to recognize these patterns & triggers- what’s the void you are filling?

You don’t live your best life because you’ve never experienced hurt, pain, addiction- you live it in spite of this. We work to help you recognize what’s not working for you- once you recognize it, it allows you to feel more empowered and have a choice over your actions.

Making a commitment means being willing and having the courage to do something different.

It’s not easy and there’s no quick fix, but as a team we can work through the process. We will help you establish realistic and achievable goals, mindful that change looks different for each person.

Choose today to stop focusing so much of your energy on self-destructive and addictive behaviors to avoid your distress.

Don’t wait to live a better life- you can start to make choices right now to do what’s important to you and be the person that you really want to be.
