Meet Maury Holliman, LMFT

Who am I?

Welcome! I’m Maury Holliman, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I’m here to support you in your goals, whether they’re about your own personal growth or desires for change in your most important relationships or a combination of both.

I’m a big fan of humor. Therapy is hard work, and there will be days we don’t laugh, but I aim to find at least one thing to smile about every session to instill hope and progress towards your goals.

Words That Describe My Counseling Style

A word cloud made up of orange, light green, dark green, and brown text of various sizes that describes Maury Holliman, MFTC, a counserlor who works with couples, individuals, teens, and LGBTQ folks using Emotionally Focused Therapy in our Englewood counseling office.

What to Expect in Therapy With Me

The world throws a lot at you no matter what walk of life you’re in. Prioritizing yourself, your partner, your family, and important relationships can be challenging, and my hope is to provide you with a safe space to explore what’s really going on.

I use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help normalize the fact that all couples can get caught in negative cycles of interaction to which they both contribute. We can explore, with lots of curiosity and compassion, the way you respond to one another and how that may perpetuate your negative cycle.

You can expect therapy with me to be a slow build into deeper issues. We will take our time, exploring where you come from, what’s important to you, and where you want to go. I see myself as a provider of opportunities for change, developing new understandings of old patterns and using your natural strengths to move towards a brighter future.

Often, what you say and what your partner hears can be in direct contradiction with each other, but how does that happen? I’m here to provide a bridge of understanding between you both. I will help you see opportunities for breaking the negative patterns and cycles you find yourself in with your most intimate relationships while emphasizing the strengths and resources you naturally possess.

What I Believe…

Everyone has the desire for connection with others, a desire to be deeply and truly understood, and to see their feelings reflected in their partners’ response.

The health and strength of your relationship is my main priority, whether that’s your relationship with a child, a parent, a partner, or any important member of your community. I will prioritize the goals you identify and challenge you to go deeper to create a happier, healthier perspective of yourself and your loved ones.

Emotionally Focused Therapy is an attachment based modality that recognizes our innate need for connection, and how the quality of the relationships in our lives impact our level of happiness.

Individuals are a reflection of their communities, families, and beliefs. We are all affected by national and global conflicts, life transitions, loss, grief, and the pursuit of happiness. It makes sense, then, that all of our relationships are affected by these significant experiences. You deserve support to navigate through those challenges with a sense of mental wellness and relationship strength.

Individual counseling work with me focuses on exploring where you’ve been, where you are, and where you wish to go. You are connected to many people and systems, and we will take the time to determine what change you wish to see and how you can empower yourself to accomplish that change.
