Meet Lauren Johnson, LCSW, Certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist
We all need to be deeply loved. | We long to be accepted for our authentic self.
We want to be desired. | We crave to be understood.
These are our universal human longings.
Seemingly such simple words, right? So, what happens in our most important relationship when we there’s conflict and disconnection instead of our longing for deep love and acceptance?
We can all get stuck in negative patterns where we misunderstand each other, create stories about why our connection has disappeared, react negatively, or even pull further away from that desired closeness. You and your partner are not alone in this.
These negative patterns can create a breeding ground of hopelessness where questions about the relationship can begin grow. I can help you bring back the hope!
It is really difficult to shift out of the patterns on our own.
We all have a tendency to do weird, even destructive things in our relationship when we feel angry, unseen, scared or even helpless.
We are not trying to find who is to blame because our behaviors all make sense when we see the underlying emotions, insecurities, and needs that are driving it all.
Once we see them, we can understand, find acceptance and create change.
It is my privilege to help you learn to reach out and communicate in new ways so that you start feeling the closeness and happiness you have been longing for.
I work with couples in an intensive format only, typically during two days of in-depth work.
To learn more about Couples Therapy Intensives, please read about them here. If a Couples Therapy Intensive seems like a fit for you, please call 303-513-8975, X1 to speak with our scheduler Joanne who can set you up with a free consult call with me.
Intensives work best when there is a solid plan for follow up couples therapy, so this is an important part of our planning for an intensive together. I regularly partner and collaborate with the other couples therapists at Thrive, so this can be a wonderful choice for your after-care.
I enjoy working with couples in all stages of relationships. I work with couples ranging from those who want to boost their relationship to those that feel their relationship may be on the brink of ending.
It is my role to contain conflict so that there can be NEW experiences within therapy that can eventually transition into the everyday bustle of life.
I can help your relationship if you want to:
- Get unstuck from rigid relationship patterns where you end up feeling unheard, not cared for and discouraged.
- Have more genuine connections with your partner
- Heal from broken trust if an affair happened.
- Increase romance or sexual intimacy in your relationship
- Want to learn more about your own emotions and how to assert your needs in a healthy way
- Navigate the BIG life transitions such as marriage, starting a family, parenting, or dealing with an empty-nest.
What is it like to work with me?
I love my job. I am passionate about working with couples. Relationships are the most important part of our lives. How we feel in our most special relationships touches all other aspects such as work and parenting. This important of a need deserves to be attended to and nurtured.

I bring humor into my work with you as I personally know the ups and downs of marriage and raising kids.
I believe that every person has inherent worthiness and brings unique strengths into the room. My role is to be present with you and help you experience yourself and your loved ones in new ways. It is truly amazing the beauty and vulnerability we can find underneath that stuck cycle you feel everyday.
What are some of my favorite things?

What is my background?
I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, a process not unlike earning a second Graduate Degree in Couples Therapy! I received my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Denver and my BA from CU Boulder. I worked for many years with children and their families at a residential/day treatment program in Denver. In the past few years I have worked with adults, adolescents, couples and families at a non-profit counseling center in Brighton.
Through my journey in this field I found my PASSION for working with couples and discovered an approach that would change my work forever. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) became my lifeline as I have witnessed amazing results for couples from all backgrounds and stages in life.
I would love to work with you. Let’s get started today! Call 303-513-8975, X1 and speak with Joanne about your questions and scheduling a Couples Intensive with me.
